Time Management Essays-Various Essays - Time Management, The Organ
Time Management Essays-Various Top Five Time Management Mistakes Time management is not necessarily working "harder", but rather, "smarter." And to accomplish significantly more in our days, we need not increase our efforts. As an example, in a horse race, the first horse may earn a $50,000 purse and the second horse may earn a $25,000 purse. The first horse gets twice as much money as the second horse, not because it ran twice as far or twice as fast. It was only a "nose ahead" of the competition. So it is with our daily results. We need not run twice as fast or put in twice the effort to significantly increase our daily success. We only need to be a "nose ahead" of where we already are. We are all productive in our days. We would not survive the demands of this world if we were not. The real challenge is how much more productive can we become? And, a lot of our time management has to do with more of what we are not doing rather than what we are doing. Sometimes our mistakes and omissions will keep us from running at a full pace. Here are the Top Five Time Management Mistakes we should all avoid to help us to increase our daily success both on and off the job, in less time and with less stress. 1. Start your day without a plan of action. You will begin your day by responding to the loudest voice (the squeaky wheel gets the grease) and spend it in a defensive mode, responding to other people's and events' demands. The tail will wag the dog. If there is a void of leadership in your time management life, someone will fill that void, not that others are bad people, but others will take all of your time if you let them. You will have worked hard but may not have done enough of right things. Time Management is not doing the wrong things quicker. That just gets us nowhere faster. Time Management is doing the right things. 2. Get out of balance in your life. Our lives are made up of Seven Vital Areas: Health, Family, Financial, Intellectual, Social, Professional, and Spiritual. We will not necessarily spend time every day in each area or equal amounts of time in each area. But if in the long run, we spend a sufficient quantity and quality of time in each area, our lives will be in balance. But if we neglect any one area, never mind two or three, we will eventually sabotage our success. Much like a table, if one leg is longer than the rest, it will make the entire table wobbly. If we don't take time for health, our family life and social life are hurt. If our financial area is out of balance, we will not be able to focus adequately on our professional goals, etc. 3. Work with a messy desk or work area. Studies have shown that the person who works with a messy desk spends, on average, one and a half hours per day looking for things or being distracted by things. That's seven and a half hours per week. ("Out of sight-out of mind." And the reverse of that is true too, "In sight, in mind"). And, it's not a solid block of an hour and a half, but a minute here and a minute there, and like a leaky hot water faucet, drip, drip, drip, it doesn't seem like a major loss, but at the end the day, we're dumping gallons of hot water down the drain that we are paying to heat. If you have ever visited the office of a top manager, typically, that person is working with a clean desk environment. Many would attribute this practice to that person's access to other staff members. While there may be some truth in that conclusion, in most cases, if we went back some years in that person's career, they probably were working with a clean desk back then which gave them the focus they needed to become promoted to where they are today. 4. Don't get enough sleep. Studies show that nearly 75% of us complain on a regular basis, all throughout our days, that we are flat-out tired. For most people, they get the quantity of sleep, but they lack the quality of sleep. Their days are filled with so much stress, they are out of control, working harder but maybe not smarter, that it's difficult to get a

Political Women essays
Political Women essays In 1978, only twenty-six years ago, there were merely sixteen women serving in the House of Representatives and only three female Senators in the United States Congress (Women in Congress). Currently, there are sixty-two women in the House and fourteen in the Senate, which is a record number for the United States (Women in the House and Senate). Of the female Congresswomen, forty-one are Democrats and twenty-one are Republicans while nine of the female Senators are Democrats and the remaining five are Republicans (Facts on Women Candidates and Elected Officials). Despite the fact that these numbers are at an all time high, women only account for fourteen percent of the Senate and also fourteen percent of the House of Representatives. Each one of these women are extraordinary, as they have overcome great obstacles and made immense sacrifices to achieve their goals. On October 26, 1947, Hugh and Dorothy Rodham welcomed daughter Hillary Diane into their Chicago home. The Rodhams eventually had two sons and raised their close family in nearby Park Ridge. As a young student, Hillary was very involved arranging food drives, participating in student government, and served as a constituent of the National Honor Society (Biography: Hillary Clinton). Hillary enrolled in Yale Law School after graduating from Wellesley College. It was then that Hillary developed her intense involvement in protecting families and children. While attending Yale, she met fellow law student, Bill Clinton, whom she married in 1975. In 1980, Bill and Hillary had their only child, Chelsea. Bill served as the Governor of Arkansas for twelve years. During that time Hillary founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, introduced Arkansas Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth, and worked tirelessly on behalf of children and families, while practicing law in Little Rock. All of these a...

Mea Culpa
Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Culpa By Maeve Maddox The Latin expression mea culpa is used as an interjection and as a noun. mea culpa interjection: an exclamation acknowledging oneââ¬â¢s guilt or responsibility for an error. For example: MOTHER: The garbage is overflowing! SON: Mea culpa! Iââ¬â¢ll take it out right now. As a noun, a mea culpa is the acknowledgement of ones guilt or responsibility for an error and is often used as a synonym for apology. Here are examples of this use: Just before Guillen began his 45-minute mea culpathe Marlins announced he had been suspended for fiveà games. Anthony Weiners emotional mea culpa: Will it be enough? Does McCain owe mea culpa to POWs MIAs? Hydro owes us a mea culpa. An apology is ââ¬Å"an acknowledgement of an offense with expression of regret for it, by way of reparation.â⬠Mea culpa as a synonym for apology derives from its use in a Latin prayer called ââ¬Å"The Confiteor.â⬠The Latin word confiteor means, ââ¬Å"I confessâ⬠or ââ¬Å"I acknowledge.â⬠In praying, the supplicant repeats the phrase mea culpa, ââ¬Å"through my own fault,â⬠numerous times during the recitation of the prayer. An error with mea culpa occurs when a writer doesnââ¬â¢t understand its English meaning. Here are examples of misuse: Annie gritted her teeth and lifted her hands briefly from the wheel inà a mea culpa apologyà to the indignant driver of the cleaners van.- Novel published by Random House. Rather than from John Paul Culotta, The Progressive, a mea culpa apology is due from the cretins who faithfully followed our torturer in chief to financial and human disaster.- News item, The Wave (Rockaway, New York). Alpha Chi Omega President Megan Koelln issued a mea culpa apology.- LA Weekly. In each example, the word apology is redundant. The only reason to follow mea culpa with the word apology would be in the context of talking about different kinds of apology. Note: More often than not, the statement being described in the news as a mea culpa is not an apology at all, but an excuse. excuse noun [eks-KYUS] : anything that justifies or extenuates a fault or defect. Charlemange as a ruler and diplomat Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Charlemange as a ruler and diplomat - Essay Example Charlemagneââ¬â¢s rule was essentially feudal ââ¬â structured in a hierarchical fashion, with lesser rulers bound by acts of fealty to higher ones.â⬠(Cunningham and Reich, 2009, pp. 185-6). Therefore, it is fundamental to comprehend that Charlemagne was a great ruler who brought back the glory and legacy of the Roman Empire in a substantial way. It is also essential to relate here that Charlemagne, as a Christian ruler, was greatly concerned with improving the administration of the empire as well as influencing the church affairs. As a ruler and diplomat, Charlemagne holds a legacy which lives even in the modern world and the Carolingian Empire has played a crucial role in the history of the Roman Catholic Church as well as the history of the Western Europe. Significantly, the quality of Charlemagneââ¬â¢s rule contributed to his legacy and reputation as the most powerful Christian ruler of the Western Europe during the medieval age. ââ¬Å"A defender of the papacy and a patron of learning, he helped lay the foundations for medieval European civilizationâ⬠¦ The Carolingian Empire profoundly influenced the history of western Europe and the Roman Catholic Church.â⬠(Testa, Lemoine, and Strickland, 2001, p. 35).

Processes of manufacturing Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Processes of manufacturing - Assignment Example 3. In casting, the grain structures are not aligned parallel to one another, but are random in alignment. In forming, the grains are aligned to one direction and are closely packed, which impacts greater strength. 4. Forging techniques used are open forging that involves heating the material and hammering it on an anvil; drop forging which involves forging material in a die using a hammer or impacting force; press forging, which involves the use of pressure to force materials into a die; roll forging, which requires the use of rollers and cold forging, which is best suited for smaller objects and involves extrusion through a die. 8. Pipe forming may be achieved through ram style bending, which involves resting the pipe at two internal points and having a rim pressing on the central axis to deform. Rotary draw bending involves drawing the pipe through stationery counter die into the required radius. Ring roll bending involves bending pipes to a large radius or circumferences. 4. Machines for bending angles include rotary-draw for tubes and pipes, push-roll machines, which accommodate roll formed and rotary ââ¬âdraw bends in a single operation and compression machines for heavy materials. 8. Deep drawing involves a work piece deforming in a larger dimension than its diameter. In shallow drawing, the depth of draw is much less than the smallest measurement of the opening. In flexible die, a flexible material replaces one of the dies. The method involves the use of materials such as rubber as the flexible material. 1. Social creatures Essay Example for Free
Social creatures Essay We human being are social creatures. We love to inter act with other people just so we can talk to them and be acquainted with them. It is physically impossible for us to stay detach for other people. We also need to feel that we belong to a certain circle of friends as a teenager and I high school. Hey I can was young once and I also felt these things. But looking back I had an outstanding relationship I have that would be very good at this point, so let me start. The first relationship that I want to talk about is a relationship I have with one of a family member. She is my fatherââ¬â¢s younger sister and a neurosurgeon at that. She is the youngest one in my fatherââ¬â¢s family, so as many would think since she is the youngest she is spoiled. Yeah, that fact is true, she was a spoiled brat, because according to my grandmother she was a sickly baby. But this didnââ¬â¢t bother me at all because I was her favorite. She and I always were close. Now come to think of it, if I had to choose which of the communication theories apply to our relationship, it will be the Uses and Gratifications Theory, I know that this mainly use for the media and that it is hard to fathom that a family member can make use of another family member but it happens on some occasion. As for me, since I was a first grandchild I too was very spoiled to the point of becoming a brat. My grandmother would describe me as intelligent but foolish and with a good conscience. But I have this temper which is extremities. See when I like you I remain very nice to you and loyal, but once you have already betrayed me you have just raised your own personal hell. I donââ¬â¢t forgive very easily. How did I come to this conclusion? It was when she got married to the husband to whom she was divorced now. Letââ¬â¢s take a look at it now, it was 8 years last May 19 of this year when my problems with her first started. I think it was a before that my grandmother had found out that she was pregnant with a guy five year younger than her. For some reason my grandmother really didnââ¬â¢t approve of the guy and kicked her out of the house. So My aunt went to live in with the guy, and I visited her once in a while to bring her some food that my grandmother cooked for her. Sometimes I would even stay over night at her place, especially when my parents and I have an argument. As I spent more time with her in the manââ¬â¢s house I began to understand why my grandmother hated the guy. Yes, he was an ophthalmologist, but he was a lazy bum. When he would get home from work he would sit in his computer and play and chat with other people on line. I on the other hand would help my aunt fix dinner and all. I did not claim to be a martyr nor an angel at that point I was far from it even up to the present time. I also had to deal with my things, my parents breaking up, I started to drink and go with all the wrong people. But when I was there with my aunt I would pull my weight. I would give their dogs a bath and help out in any way I could. When the month of May finally arrived my aunt gave birth to their first child a baby boy. I was the one who went to their house and got the things needed for her. When I went to the house, this lady called looking for my auntââ¬â¢s husband and so I told her that my aunt gave birth. I watched my aunt in the hospital while the husband was at home tinkering with his computer. There was a visitor that came and I offered that visitors some pastries that were brought for the visitor. The visitor commented of on how great that I was taking care of my aunt and all. But she commented that I was taking care of her so that I could just eat. That comment began our Uses and Gratifications Theory of Communications. How can I say this? Easy because itââ¬â¢s true, another example would be when she returned to my grandmotherââ¬â¢s house. She told me to go with her so that she could buy some clothes for me and a mobile phone. So I went with her, in the car she told me that we were going to have lunch with her husband and that I should not tell my grandmother. I had lunch with them and then went to buy the clothes and mobile phone. My aunt the dropped me off at the corner heading to our compound saying that people might start asking questions if they see me with her that day. So I went down to walk to my house and told my mom what my aunt brought for me. Hey who was I to question her. Then she got pregnant with her second child again, and it all repeated once again. She got kicked out; I had to take care of her with a lot of freebies on the side. But the final straw was drawn when that husband had the audacity to hit my aunt. She called me to tell my grandmother to pick her up along with her children. Now she is a neurologist and still staying with my grand mother. When my birthday came she took me and one of my cousins out for some breakfast, and who was waiting for us at country waffle was the husband. Itââ¬â¢s just she told us that her children needed a father to so we helped her out by covering up for her. What really made me realize that she was just using us is when she accused my cousin of stealing her mobile phone. But it was her helper all along that stole the phone. You see my younger cousinââ¬â¢s family stays with my grandmother. So in order to save face my cousin and his family left. Till now that feud is still on going. I could have just let it go, but the made turned her ugly head towards me. She would call mobile phones and use my name to charge it to the land line. It was a good think that one of my aunts checked and it was made to a driver that the maid was flirting with. She also took money and let others take the blame for it. I ended my relationship with my aunt when I started my kennel business. I got tired of being use and using my aunt is return. But what really ended it was when I fought with her helper because her helper told me to put all my dogs in the pound. So I told our house boy that that help was flirting with to just give her what she wanted and have sex with her. That message got to the maid and she slapped me, so I broke her face with my fist. The left and cooled off with my father. The last straw was when it was my grandmother who called my attention about lying about going with her to the hospital at a late night call. So she called me when I was in a party to asked me to go with her to the hospital. Then she lied and told me I was not with her. She even bribed the driver to tell my grandmother that I was not with her. Thatââ¬â¢s when I all decided to stop this relationship. It was taking its toll on me and I had to live and let live. See I have learned that the communication theory of Uses and Gratifications will only benefit one person. That other person in that relationship will find it gratifying for a while but it will not last. I have learned that the hard way, and got hurt and burned the same way. I also learned that having a relationship whether it be family or love communications should be constant and no one should get hurt. Competitive Organization Essay -- Business
How does your organization compete? Walker et al. (2010) write, ââ¬Å"competitive strategies are based on overall patterns of purpose, practice, and performance.â⬠After reviewing the annual report and company website, it appears that Limited Brands Inc. (LTD) does not only have one competitive strategy. Since the firm is divided into several distinct strategic business units (SBU) with differing core competencies and available resources, as well as disparate customer and competitive characteristics it employs different strategies to create value, promote growth and profitability (i.e. Victoriaââ¬â¢s Secret and Bath & Body Works; Walker et al., 2010). For instance, the Victoriaââ¬â¢s Secret SBU appears to leverage a ââ¬Å"differentiated analyzer strategyâ⬠by ââ¬Å"actively seeking to expand into related product markets with differentiated offeringsâ⬠(Walker et al., 2010). Not only does Victoriaââ¬â¢s Secret offer a differentiated line of lingerie, but it also has expanded its product offerings to include beauty, apparel, and accessories. These expansions are largely financed and supported by the SBUââ¬â¢s core business (lingerie) and its profitable, strong brand reputation. In contrast, the Bath & Body Works SBU seems to employ a ââ¬Å"differentiated defender strategyâ⬠(Walker et al., 2010). Its activities focus on constantly improving existing offerings by modifying products as well as processes. In addition, it also defends its market position through line extensions to help insulate and fortify the companyââ¬â¢s position from competition. In its annual report LTD notes ââ¬Å"we are aggressively focusing on bringing compelling merchandise assortments, marketing and store experiences to our customersâ⬠(LTD, 2011). This implies that LTDââ¬â¢s overarching strategy is driv... ...ity. Resources: Anderson, J.C., Narus, JA., & van Rossum, W. (2006). Customer value propositions in business markets. All That Glitters Is Not Gold
e book, All That Glitters Is Not Gold, written by Benjamin Ifeanyichukwu Abugu, symbolically portrays deception. It shows that life is fragile and one should be be handled with care. Written in 19 chapters, the 152-page prose analyses the fruitlessness of promiscuity. It highlights how reckless living leads to pain and shame. Essentially, the book depicts the moral decadence of the 21st Century people, who believe in easy life and quick financial benefit. The story revolves round the major characters; Anya and his sister Blossom. Both are children of Gab Uku and Mabel from Egwuonwu who live in Lagos. Their escapades, belief, time and chance like the Biblical saying, are weighed in a balance. Anya and Blossom had lived a wayward live of watching pornographic films and fornicating. ââ¬Å"Their inner conflicts are compounded by the scourge of HIV/AIDS, that currently threatens to destroy the entire population. â⬠While Anya escapes the scourge, his sister falls victim. Former Miss World becomes a shadow of herself and finally dies. Anya, a newspaper reporter, has some bad habits which are controlled by his experiences. He learns from his experiences, illusions, dreams, particularly, his encounter with swindlers and robbery trial arising from his association with bad friends. Anya almost committed suicide when erroneously given a HIV positive result. His fears and conflicts are allayed after the result is corrected. From that moment, he turns a new leave. But Blossom is a former beauty queen and a campus babe. Having lived with her aunty, Eliza and husband, Chief Dike Akukamadu, a business mogul, becomes a sleeping partner to the chief.Aside living a carefree life, she is also a cultist. Her friend, Rose, introduces her to Daughters of Jezebel, the female wing of Red Atlantic cult. The cult was notorious for all manners of indecent appearance on campus, including nudity, which was regarded as the most sacred mark of the sisterhood of Jezebel. Blossom torment st arts after her escapades with Romeo, a sadist, who storms campus on a revenge mission to distribute HIV/AIDS to 50 girls. She and other fun-loving girls fall victims as a result of the dollars of Mr. Romeo. The author uses the third person narrative technique to tell the story. All that glitters is indeed gold. Had Blossom known, she would have lived a better life and she wouldnââ¬â¢t have wasted her beauty, talent and life just as Anya wouldnââ¬â¢t have been swindled. From the objects on the cover page, which sparkle like gold but are not there is a warning for everyone to beware of outward appearance because it is very deceptive as against inward virtues and qualities. The book is didactic. Its lesson is for all to beware and take time to weigh every action. It is thought provoking as many think that worldliness is the best form of living but really, it is not. The book is morally inclined. It is detached and impartial. It lays bare the evils of immorality and allows readers t o make their own judgment. Abugu has also published The Widow And The Wolves aside writing a number of articles published online @ expertscolumn. com. Born in Amachalla, Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North L. G. A, Enugu State, Abugu is a graduate of English Language from the Lagos State University. All That Glitters is Not Gold The adage ââ¬Å"All that glitters is not goldâ⬠cautions us against forming our opinion about objects on the basis of superficial impressions. It also implies that one should try to ascertain the true nature of things and to understand the reality hidden behind their glittering facade. However, love for glamour is deeply embedded in human nature. Taking advantage of this inherent vulnerability of man to glamour, cash rich companies rope in glamorous film and sports personalities to advertise their goods and services.Soap and tooth paste used by charming actresses and dashing sportsmen sell like hot cakes. Companies' sales are boosted and consumers, particularly those of the lower middle classes, forego many necessities of life to have a taste of goodies recommended by their favourite stars. Man would read super hero stories from films and see that those are real and often fell in temptations and believe that those are great but actually those are also men. hose glitters in film s imagines him to be great but actually he is also a man among us.One would expect that our reading of such stories would make us wise and prevent us from falling prey to temptations of outward beauty. But man, weak as he is, never learns from others' experience. He often courts disaster by giving into temptations. We are repeatedly warned and alerted by the wise and the experienced not to take persons and things on their face value. The most innocent masks may hide behind them the most cunning of cheats. But very often even the wise fall prey to tricksters. Even Sita, the consort of Lord Rama, was tempted by the glitter of the golden deer she saw bounding around her forest cottage and requested Rama to bring it for her. Rama earnestly expostulated Sita to forget the deer as it might be a trap of some villain, but she was so charmed by the guiles of the deer that she pressed him to leave the Ashram in search of it. A few minutes later, Sita heard a distress call for help in Rama's vo ice. She, thereupon, requested Lakshman to go and relieve Rama from distress. Lakshman tried to convince Sita that nobody was brave enough to harm the invincible Rama, but Sita was so nervous that she forced Lakshman to leave the Ashram. In his absence, the Rakshasa king Ravana abducted Sita. It later turned out that the golden deer was actually the demon Marichi in disguise sent by Ravana to tempt Sita. Sita's temptation demonstrates the validity of the old saying ââ¬Å"All that glitters is not goldâ⬠. All That Glitters is Not Gold The most valuable items in the world, monetary value wise, are the precious gems and metals that the rich and the famous constantly adorn themselves with. Todayââ¬â¢s concept of value is based on tangible items that have a corresponding market value. Gold, which is the peg for most currencies in the world, is the universal currency these days. Nothing of value can be purchased, owned or possessed if it does not justify its ââ¬Å"weight in goldâ⬠, so to speak. Yet, as the tagline of Mastercard suggests, there are those things that are ââ¬Å"priceless.â⬠In this world, not everything is gold and not everything that resembles something valuable has to glitter. Perhaps a perfect example would be an illustration of a personal experience of mine. I once had an opportunity to witness two lawyers working at their firm in the past. I must admit that I had certain preconceived notions of what I would see at that firm. I expected these senior lawyers to have fancy cars and flashy watches. Yet much to my surprise, they had none of those things. One lawyer regularly commuted to work while the other preferred to ride his bike to work. There were no glittering watches or pieces of jewelry. One of them could not replace his tattered briefcase with something more decent and perhaps functional. I knew from the moment I saw them that there was much more to them than that. As the day went on, I would see that they had a special touch with their clients. The fact that they knew the cases of their respective clients by heart and even the names of their children and family situation made me see them in a different light. They did not charge excessive fees and often just accepted small tokens of appreciation in return. The difference that these lawyers made was even more emphasized by an experience later that day when an opposing lawyer entered their firm. A sports car sped by the office window and anyone could see the person driving the convertible that had its top down. In his mid thirties, this young lawyer entered the firm with a certain air of authority, expecting everyone to recognize him.He had a gold watch would blind the eyes of anyone unfortunate enough to glance at it. He had platinum cuff links on his suit that were adorned with diamonds. Behind him were his assistants who were just as gaudily dressed. It turns out that they represented a large corporation that wanted these two humble lawyers to drop their case against the firm. They were prepared to offer a huge cash settlement in return. I was not surprised when these humble lawyers politely declined the offer and proceeded with the case which they eventually won for their clients. These were lawyers who were in a position to make millions of dollars yet they chose not to and instead devoted their lives to uphold the justice system of the state and of this great country. There was nothing flashy or fancy about the things that they did but I know that they have made a big difference in t his world. This personal experience of mine shows that not everything that glitters is gold; the former lawyer with all the pomp and flash that he had still resorted to underhanded tactics and eventually lost out in the end. There was no substance to this person. There was no value underneath that entire flashy exterior. The two humble lawyers, on the other hand, showed much more than their exterior would suggest. The kindness of their hearts was echoed in their actions and the time they devoted to their clients was something that was certainly worth more than any glittering watch of gold. Not everything that glitters is gold. Not everything that glitters has any value to it.Real value sometimes cannot be judged from the flashy exterior and certainly cannot be equated in todayââ¬â¢s currency. It is the acts of kindness and selflessness that give value to things in this world, especially human beings. It is easy to be distracted by something shiny and pretty but one must always rea lize that everything material disappears in the end. All the shine will soon tarnish and fade away. Yet those intangibles that matter will never fade and will always be in the hearts of tho

The Greek Mythology
Greek Mythology is a group of teachings and myths that were originated by the ancient Greeks, when they were trying to understand the origin of things in the sky and on earth. This myth was a big part of the religion of the Greeks. Hesiod offers the theogony, which tells of the dealings with the creation of the world, and the origin of the gods, titans, and giants. Athena, also called Athene, was a goddess of many things like wisdom, and courage. She was born to Zeus and Metis in Mount Olympus. She was fully grown and wearing armor from head to toe. Athena is said to be a pre-Hellenic goddess that was taken by the Greeks. Her story shows that the people were looking for closure over wisdom and war during this time. This myth seeks to explain some countless inventions. She has a major influence on today's culture. For instance, her helmet is featured on the crest of West Point Academy, as well as represented the first branch of the United States Army just for women. Although there are many different stories of how Athena came to be, most known one is that Zeus swallowed Metis and Athena sprang from his head. Because she is the goddess of many things, Athena is featured on many modern crests, was praised by the Greeks in their time, and was supposedly the origin of many great inventions. Although classical Greek culture was during the period of the 4th and 5th centuries, ancient Greek culture and myths are tremendously influential in many aspects like, language, politic, educational system, philosophy, science, the arts, and the gods. For instance, our country is a democracy. Democracy is said to originate from Greece. Not only that, we use the gods and goddesses in our everyday life. Athena's helmet is featured on the West Point Military Academy crest. Her head is represented on the first branch of the United States Army that is for women. Hellenic polytheists worship the Greek gods, olympians, nature divinities, underworld deities, and heroes. Hellenic religion is any systems of beliefs and practices of the ancient Greeks during the Hellenic period and the Roman Empire. Religion was very important to the Greeks because they believed that religion would make their lives better. This Hellenistic world was made after conquest that went from India to Egypt and took about 20 to complete after Alexander the Great's death. (Hellenistic Culture) Athena was born to Zeus and Metis, at Mount Olympus, fully grown and wearing full armor from head to toe. Athena is said to be a pre-Hellenic goddess that was taken from kgjhjv by the Greeks. There are many different versions of how Athena came to be. Most say that Zeus and Metis conceived a baby girl. Before Metis gave birth, Mother Earth told Zeus that a child born to Metis would one day overthrow his throne. He became worried because that is the same thing he did to his own father. Zeus challenged her in a shapeshifting contest; she turned herself into a fly and taking the advice of Gaea and Uranus, Zeus swallowed her up. A few days later, he started to get dreadful headaches and asked his son, Hephaestus, to take an axe and crack his head open.(Temple)Some versions say that Palamon and Hermes helped Zeus give birth. Others regard her to be his daughter, but also as the daughter of Pallas, whom she killed later because he tried to desecrate her chastity. Another that was transplanted to Libya, says that she is the daughter of Poseidon and Tritonis. According to Athena, herodotus became enraged with her father and went to Zeus, who later stepped in as her father. These were regarded more as Hellenistic Myths (ââ¬Å"Atheneâ⬠) Athena was a goddess of many aspects like wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. She was the goddess of arts and crafts because of her spinning and weaving. She was the goddess of war and wisdom because she sprang from Zeus's head and she was a ruthless warrior. She was very strategic and skilled during warfare. She is often portrayed as the companion of heroes is the patron goddess of heroic endeavour. (ââ¬Å"Atheneâ⬠)Athena was featured in many heroic stories. One being, when she assisted Odysseus in his adventures. Odysseus and Athena were similar. He was the Greek King of Ithaca just as she was a great goddess. They had some of the same qualities. They were both nondiscriminatory, and clever. When it came to helping Odysseus in the Trojan War, she was there. Other gods didn't like that he was helping the Trojans. Most of all, she helped him on his way home, because he ran into many obstacles. He was imprisoned by Calypso then, when he escaped, he went sailing through storms, which later resulted in many shipwrecks. He then found himself in trouble with many other gods like, Poseidon and Polyphemus. Athena did not want to make the other gods angry, so she only offered Odysseus wisdom. When he returned safely to Ithaca, Athena helped him disguise as a beggar.(Temple) A less heroic story of Athena, is when she accidentally killed her friend, Pallas. As a young woman, Athena didn't quite fit in on Mount Olympus. So she went out to find a friend, Pallas. Her new friend was the daughter of Triton, the sea god. The often practiced their combat skills with each other. On time they were doing their session when Pallas took a fatal blow from Athena. Feeling sorrowful, Athena put a statue of Pallas near Zeus's throne Mount Olympus.(Temple) Athena has a major influence on today's culture; her helmet is featured on many things of the United States. One being the West Point Academy crest. Her helmet represents her wisdom, while her sword represents a warrior. The seal of California also features her head. It symbolizes the goddess of wisdom overlooking the scene. (Seal of California) The US Women Army Corps shows her head as their insignia. Athena is said to be the origin of many things that make up Greek culture. She made the statue of Pallas that sits near Zeus's throne. She helped many heros on adventures, like the one with Odysseus. She also has tremendous influence on modern culture. For instance, she is featured on the Seal of California, the U.S. Women's Army Corp, and the West Point crest. Its is clear that Athena is relevant in both ancient times and modern day culture. She is, many times, the symbol of power, wisdom, and valor. This is what makes her so influential in the world.

Daphnia Lab Report Essays
Daphnia Lab Report Essays Daphnia Lab Report Paper Daphnia Lab Report Paper A pipette was used to place the Daphnia with water on a glass slide. The slide was then placed under a glass microscope to be observed for the experiment. A tally counter was used to count the heart rates of the Daphnia when it was placed in warm water, under ice and in epinephrine. RESULTS When we experimented what the effect temperature has on the Daphnia heart ate, we started with an average control of 64 beats in 15 seconds. After placing the Daphnia in warm water the average heart rate went up to an average of 72 beats in 15 seconds, with an average increase of 12. 5%. When we placed the Daphnia over ice the average heart rate decreased to an average of 43 beats in 15 seconds, with an average decrease of 33%. When we experimented what the effect of epinephrine has on the Daphnia heart rate, we started with an average control of 73 beats in 15 seconds before adding epinephrine. When he epinephrine was added to our experiment the average heart rate increased to 83 beats in 15 seconds. , with an average of 14%. After the epinephrine was diluted from the slide the average heart rate returned to an average of 78 beats in 15 seconds, with a decrease of 7% from the heart rate with epinephrine. DISCUSSION After putting the Daphnia in warm water the average heart rate increased by 12. 5%. The average heart rate then decreased by 33% in cold water. This is because they are cold-blooded animals; therefore they cannot go through harmoniousness. Their body temperature rises and falls, along with its heart rate, depending on the environment theyre exposed to. After applying the epinephrine the heart rate shot up by 14% and decreased after being diluted in water by 7%. Epinephrine is adrenaline. On any animal adrenaline makes the heart rate go faster which brings us to our results. CONCLUSION With this experiment we saw the effects of temperature and epinephrine on a Daphnia heart rate. All three of my hypotheses were proved correct.

20 Things People Hate About Your Website
20 Things People Hate About Your Website Do you want to create a website that is guaranteed to attract and keep visitors? Developing a web presence that audience loves is easy ââ¬â if you avoid the twenty things people hate about websites. Whether it be through smartphones, laptops, tablets, or home computers, almost everyone can easily obtain the vast and overwhelming source of information that makes up the world-wide web. It goes without saying that online sources are full of useful and popular web pages that people visit again and again because they love what is offered at that particular page. However, many websites they visit leave a terrible impression that makes them never want to return. Weââ¬â¢ve searched high and low to reveal the top twenty things that people hate about your website to guide you to create a site that they will love! Copy Mistakes Listed below are the most common mistakes made when it comes to your websiteââ¬â¢s text content, better known as the copy. 1. Your Copy is Over-Saturated with Keywords In years past, the way search engines found webpages was by the amount of keywords within the copy. Today, search engines are much smarter and are able to find what you are searching for without the use of keyword density. While keyword density is important for SEO (search engine optimization) when you have too many keywords in the copy, it makes it unreadable for those who visit your website! à 2. Confusing About Us Page The about us page should be exactly about the website your guests are visiting. When you do not have a clear and easy to understand about us page, your visitors will feel confused and overwhelmed at not knowing the exact products or services you offer. à 3.à Lack of a Blog A blog is a great way to boost your SEO, but it is also a great tool to connect to your website visitors. Blogs can give a great source of information andà they will boost traffic to your site just so long as the blog you offer readers is interesting and updated often. Blogs can also be sources of Frequently Asked Questions and their answers to assist your visitors with an issue without having to contact customer service. 4. Call to Actions that Do Not Match Offers The calls to action that you feature on your website should coincide with the offers you are promoting to your visitors. Nothing will frustrate people moreà than being told they will receive a 50% off discount if they buy now. Only to find out there are more strings attached to the promotion such as: must spend X amount of money, selected items only, or applicable for in-store purchases only. When your call to action doesnââ¬â¢t match the offers, your reputation will suffer, but more importantly, so will your conversion rates. 5. Headlines That Misguide Readers Catchy and interesting titles and headlines within your copy are great and useful ways to attract the readerââ¬â¢s attention. Just bear in mind that if your copy doesnââ¬â¢t match the title, you will become known as a ââ¬Ëclick baitââ¬â¢ site or one that attracts readers because of the title. Once they reach the website, they quickly realize the information they were looking for is not there and they will leave. Not to mention misleading headlines annoy readers and create distrust. 6. Contact Forms Instead of Contact Information When your website does not feature basic contact information such as email, phone number, and/or address your visitors will not be able to contact you! Sometimes websites will use a contact form. Contact forms are a fill in the blank information box that will store the data provided by the website visitor and will leave the communication up to the team behind the website. This is unreliable for visitors and many people nowadays feel uncomfortable with giving out personal information over the Internet. 7. Unclear Descriptions of What Your Company Does This is just as bad as having a mashed up About Us page. When you have visitors to your site and your website is not intuitive enough to show exactly what your company does, it will create feelings of confusion and mistrust. If you cannot make your visitors stay for more than fifteen seconds, they will be more than likely to abandon your site to never return. Visual Mistakes Websites must be visually appealing to visitors. This will help encourage them to stay on the site and even return knowing they will have an enjoyable experience. 8.à Using Obvious Stock Photos Itââ¬â¢s alright to employ the use of stock photos from time to time, but be careful which ones you select for your website! It is painfully obvious when a website is using tacky, generic, or even cheesy stock photos. Images should be used on your website to help your visitors. Using generic photos serve no purpose when it comes to being helpful to your visitors. 9. Using Distracting Animations Animations can be fun and entertaining for your website visitors, but take caution when thinking about using them for your website. Often times, people find that animations are distracting as the constant movements take the eyes away from the text they are trying to read. For example, if your website does not pass the three second blink test (the crucial three seconds it takes for visitors to decide to stay on the page or not), they will click the back button. Obtrusive and distracting animations can cause your site to fail the three second blink test and if you are interested in using animations on your webpage, make sure to do so the right way! 10. Not Knowing What to Do While this is the most obvious visual aspect of your websites, many webpages out there have no indication as to what the visitor is supposed to do once they arrive. If youââ¬â¢re an online store that shoppers cannot easily access products or they cannot figure out how to use your site, guess what? They will shop somewhere else. The same goes for every single type of website, whether you are on online store or not. If your visitors cannot figure out what to do, then they will head somewhere else for what they need. 11. There Are Too Many Pop Ups If there is any one thing that will turn people away from your website, it is the use of pop ups. No one likes them. No one. If you are using them on your site, please take the steps to remove them! People find pop ups annoying and sometimes difficult to close. Besides, pop up ads will distract your visitor from the main purpose of visiting your site in the first place. 12. Sliders Take Too Long to Load Using image sliders are popular choices for web design and when they are done right, you can have a visually appealing website. On the contrary, if your site has loaded nearly 90% of the way and your visitors still cannot see the slider image, they will find that they will have to wait too long for your site to do its thing and they will become bored and search elsewhere. User Interface Mistakes When it comes to websites, user interface is one of the most important factors in attracting and keeping visitors on your page. When user interface is done right, your visitors will have no trouble and even enjoy using your website. If the design and usability is unfriendly or not functioning properly, you will find that you will have unhappy visitors whose numbers continue to dwindle. 13. Unable to Contact Customer Service There are hundreds of websites that offer instant connections with customer service agents, whether they are live or virtual. When you see the pop up or prompt to use their online customer service and you actual go to do so, chances are you are already frustrated due to an issue you are experiencing. As a visitor you automatically expect the online customer service tools to work and function so you can be assisted with your issue. When these things are not working, visitors can become outraged and confused, not knowing where they need to go for help with their problem. Furthermore, if you have your customer service contact information listed on your site, make sure it is accurate and that your customers are able to reach someone. 14. Not Mobile or Tablet Optimized Today people are accessing the Internet via the smallest devices possible. Yet, there are still plenty of sites out there that do not work on mobile phones or tablets. This can be caused by the lack of mobilization in the design and code structure. To put it simply, some webpages are not built or coded, to adjust to the smaller screens which will prevent the entire thing from loading at all. Mobilization ensures that your website will work on: iPhones Tablets Android phones Laptops with small screens In short, the mobile-optimized site can be accessible for your audience from any device. 15. Poor Navigation Tools Poor navigation within a website will leave your visitors confused and frustrated, as they will not know what to do or how to find something on your site. Having a search bar or navigation bar that functions properly and is easy to use will allow your visitors to find exactly what they need in just a few clicks. Phrasing the navigation copy, how to properly analyze visitorââ¬â¢s flow, are used to make a website easy to search though. Take time to design your site and make sure you can achieve the perfect website navigational tools. 16.à Struggling to Buy Products When you are buying anything online, all you want is for this process to be quick and painless. There are several websites that commit what is known as two-site syndrome and their users go to click on something and it leads you to another site to complete the task that should have been done on the first website. Two-site syndrome has shown to decrease conversion rates, and make the customer experience a miserable one. Take our advice and avoid the two-site syndrome so your customers can make their online purchases as hassle free. Overall Website Mistakes 17. No Social Media Icons Social media is one of the greatest ways to connect and network between current and future customers. It is so common and very easy for visitors to share with their family and friends by using the social media icons found on the website. Social media icons make it instant and did I mention ââ¬Ëeasyââ¬â¢ for your guests to share what they love about your site! Not to mention, when your site and content can be spread across several social media platforms, your site will be able to see a boost in SEO and your page ranks according to your search browser. A quick list of social media icons all online business should or need to have: Facebook Instagram Twitter Imgur Tumblr Google+ Flickr 18.à Auto-Playing Videosà Weââ¬â¢ve all been to those annoying sites that startle you when they catch you off guard with their loud and unexpected video that begins to play out of nowhere. People across the globe find those auto-playing videos on websites to be insulting, distracting, and annoying as they are reported to be one of the worst tactics for webpages. 19. Internal Links that Lead Nowhere Crosslinks also known as internal links, are links within the webpage that keep your visitors on your page or provide a gateway to another useful website, are excellent tools for allowing your visitor to learn more or continue searching for related topics. When you go to click on an interesting link and you end up nowhere, you will become frustrated and even decide to leave the entire site behind. This all comes down to not having proper function and this alone will change the minds of your visitors. If you do have internal links, always make sure for them to open with a fully separate tab. Many times, customers will click on a link and want to continue reading or examining your website. In this case allow them to stay on the page they are reading and let the link they clicked on open up in a whole new tab so they do not lose their place! 20. Takes Too Long to Load Going back to the point made about the three second blink test, people want things to happen fast! Unless the Internet connection is fully to blame for a slow load time of a webpage, you need to do everything you can to allow your site to load fast. The longer it takes for your website to load, the more people will search elsewhere and abandon your site completely. In todayââ¬â¢s world, many people seek instant gratification. This is especially true for using the Internet and accessing websites. According to a study, 40% of your sites visitors will leave if it takes longer than three seconds to load. Luckily, there are ways to test the siteââ¬â¢s load time and you can make sure to take the steps to adjust where you need to in order to pass these tests. Once you have tested your load time check the following factors to ensure they are not causing your site to load at a snailââ¬â¢s pace: Spikes in traffic ââ¬â too many people trying to access the site at once will definitely cause a slow-down. Sharing server space if your site is hosted somewhere and you share server space with a busier, more active site, it can cause your site to be slower. It is advised to hire private server space to prevent this from happening. The total number of the HTTP requests your site receives. If you are trying to boost your traffic and maintain a healthy following of regular visitors, make sure you are NOT making the mistakes that lead to people hating your website. Even though they might not seem like a big deal, even the smallest mistakes can lead to low traffic, low conversion rates, and low bottom line results. At the end of the day, if you want to have a strong and prevalent online presence, no matter what sort of website you have, make sure you are doing everything in your power to ensure yours is mistake free. Giving your visitors a pleasant experience will not only have them coming back for more (and telling their friends when they share your site on their social networks), but your webpage will not be known amongst the worst on the Internet. This will only happen if you avoid the twenty things people hate about websites, so plan and execute your web strategy carefully! Your siteââ¬â¢s survival on the Internet depends on it!

A Concept Analysis of Anxiety Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
A Concept Analysis of Anxiety - Essay Example The objective of the study undertaken is to present various perspectives of the different disciplines regarding the concept of anxiety. The perspectives include medical and non-medical fields. Anxiety is distinguished from fear as anxiety is the reaction to an unexpected, possible harmless scenario. On the other hand, fear pertains is the reaction to a verified danger. Anxiety and fear are related but they are two different kinds of emotions especially when behavioral response is used as a basis. From an evolutionary point of view, possible hazard is detected and behavioral, cognitive and emotional reactions occur to save the human being and escape the possible danger through the functioning of anxiety as a logical and functional effect (Sartori, Landgraf and Singewald, 2011). Some people avoid anxiety and develop phobia towards anxiety. The phobia towards anxiety is known as anxiety sensitivity and it pertains to fear of anxiety symptoms that lead to beliefs about the negative effec ts of the symptoms in terms of psychological, physiological, and social point-of-view. Anxiety sensitivity leads to panic disorder and other anxiety diseases according to the studies conducted on adults and have increasingly become the reason for the onset of anxiety in the early stages of life like in childhood and adolescence. Studies showed that anxiety sensitivity is identified as an indicator to predict the panic attacks among preteens. It is related to fears, anxiety, panic-like symptoms, and anxiety diseases based on the experiments done on children and adolescents in communities. Anxiety sensitivity has the possibility to be connected to anxiety symptoms above and it is not only a trait since it influences the lives of children and adolescents (Mc Laughlin and Hatzenbuehler, 2009). As the above explanations showed, childhood and adolescence are the main life stages where the onset of anxiety symptoms occurs. Symptoms may involve mild symptoms or the whole anxiety disorders. The reliable clinical validity of assessment in the perspective of research is needed to determine the prevalence and patterns of the onset of panic and anxiety. Deeper understanding of characteristics as solid symptoms for more malignant disorders is needed as it may have some relations to self-limiting patterns of course and outcome. Early detection is an advantage so people can recognize anxiety and make full preparations and preventions or treatment for the young people (Beesdo, Knappe and Pine, 2009). Previous studies showed the effect of unrelated emotions to tasks on a goal-oriented cognitive processing occurring simultaneously is connected to unlike patterns of activation in emotions and perceptions versus cognitive executive brain regions. Although little is known about the use of individual variations in the responses, a present study investigated deeper into the influence of anxiety on the neural responses controlling: â⬠¦the effect of transient anxiety-inducing task- irrelevant distraction on cognitive performance, and on the neural correlates of coping with such distraction. We investigated whether activity in the brain regions sensitive to emotional distraction would show dissociable patterns of co-variation with measures indexing individual variations in trait anxiety and cognitive performance (Denkova et. al., 2010). Past studies on stress and anxiety disorders has considered factors like genetic, physiological, or behavioral phenomena in isolation. Separate studies had been conducted and results were not integrated. Recent studies changed the tradition since more comprehensive developmental studies have been done that are very important for their inclusion of discoveries from adult social and genetic
